June 2005 - Quiz
OK, sportsfans, you are in some kind of Tom Cruise lurking outside the mansion in Eyes Wide Shut kinda scenario. Behind the burly bouncer guards is a debauched soiree featuring carnal delights of your deepest desires. Sadly, it is a members only party, you are not a member, and will not be let in because you do not know the password associated with the evening's festivities. However, all is not lost, since you have craftily hidden yourself in a place where you can hear the dialogue between members and the guard as they are let in, providing you with an opportunity to overhear the password, or to determine the pattern of responses required to get yourself in.
The first person approaches and the guard says to him:
"twelve"
The member responds, "six".
The member is happily led in.
The next member approaches:
GUARD: "six"
MEMBER: "three"
He too is happily led into the party.
Thinking that you have the pattern sorted, you approach the guard. He says to you:
"ten"
You reply "five", and start to rub your hands together excitedly, eager for the delights to begin showering down upon you.
Unfortunately, you have provided an incorrect response, and are dragged away from the entrance into the woods and beaten to a pulp. (This scenario presumes that getting beaten within an inch of your life is not your particular favorite carnal desire. If that does happen to be your favorite kink, something else really bad happens you that your pervy self doesn't view as good. The setting of the orgy inside is immaterial for the puzzle itself and just provides a context that it is desirable to get the password right and has no bearing on what the pattern for the solution is, etc.)
What should you have responded to the guard when he said "ten" and why?
While I cannot promise an evening of delights of the flesh to the correct respondent, he or she will get some kind of prize.
Last month's prize was a baseball bat, so it seems prize quality might be improving. But, then again, that pattern could prove deceptive as well.
Best of luck!

Is it eight? 12+6 is 18 which is evenly divisible by nine and 6+3 is also evenly divisible. Six is the smallest number that can be added to twelve to get the result, ditto with three. So my guess is eight.
Being dragged into the woods and beaten to a pulp? Party of two? Now seating...
Which is to say, wrong and wrong...
But a less severe beating for Mr. Po if you please, since he seems to have at least tried...

The answer is three. Not four and can be counted to inthe proper order as one, two and then our answer -- three.
You are correct sir!
By way of testing the why aspect, please provide the answers to the following guard statements:
"Nine"
"One"
"Three"

Well done, good show and all that.
So, for the fastball reaction time contest, you won a bat (which you have neglected to collect, BTW)
So, now a subject matter appropriate prize must be chosen for this victory...
Hmmm...

FINALLY I have cracked the code (good for you, theDJB). What continues to baffle me is PPo's explanation. That is a riddle unto itself.
I will demonstrate (hopefully) my knowledge of the answer (good for you ...) with the guard's cue followed by the proper response:
two - three
four - four
five - four
seven - five
eight - five
eleven - six
Okay, now I am venturing into "showing off" territory unless I am flat wrong in which case I again say, "fidelio."

Silly dolphin, trix are for kids! I see the 2 images: 1) a woman reaching behind and over her head to embrace a man; and 2) a man massaging a woman's breasts from behind. For some reason, I could really go for a tuna sandwich right now.

juggling planes of existence

At your discretion, you can choose to interpret this as a fun little animation, or a deep rumination on the nature of a spatial temporal pictorially represented reality.
Up to you...
